Degree:
Doctor of Education from the University of Illinois in 1988;
Master of Arts from the University of Tulsa in Elementary
Education in 1987; Bachelor of Music Education from the
University of Tulsa in Instrumental Music Education in 1976
School Leadership Experience:
Dr. Matthews spent a two years as a fifth and sixth grade teacher, one year as a full-time contract substitute teacher and 8 years as a Business owner of Wholesale greenhouse, Inola, Oklahoma. He was the Clinical reading instructor of the Reading Group in Urbana, Illinois.
Research Interests:
Dr. Matthews research interests center around teacher education and reading. He is interested in how teachers learn to teach, what information they find valuable from educational and psychological literature, and how teachers modify their practice over time. He is also interested in continuing to study the difficulties that children have in learning from text. |
