Dr. Turner currently teaches courses in the areas of the Principalship, Curriculum and Leadership, and serves as an Academic Advisor to a number of Master's Degree candidates.

Degree:
Doctor of Education from Illinois State University in Educational Administration and Foundations in 1982.

School Leadership Experience:
Dr. Turner spent the last twelve years as the Executive Director of the Illinois Principals Association, a four thousand member professional organization of elementary and secondary principals, assistant principals and deans, affiliated with the National Association of Elementary School Principals and the National Association of Secondary School Principals. Prior to working for IPA, Dr. Turner served for twenty years as a high school principal in Illinois. During his time as a principal, Dr. Turner, served as member of the Illinois High School Association's Board of Directors and was President of the Board for two years, and served a three year term on the Executive Board of the National Federation of State High School Associations. During that time, Dr. Turner was and Adjunct at both Illinois State University and Sangamon State University primarily teaching Principalship classes.

Research Interests:
In the area of scholarship, Dr. Turner has conducted presentations at the state and national level.  At  the national level programs have focused primarily of the skills of effective school leaders and the politics of education.  At the state level, programs have focused on a range of practical skills for leaders at the building level including, teacher evaluation and remediation, school safety and security, administrator contracts and salary schedules, career advancement, communication skills, student scheduling and general leadership skills. Dr. Turner also presents motivational/keynote speeches for administrator conferences, and has been involved in a number of long- range research projects including the current Illinois SAELP project.
